Let's start at the top
Congratulations! You just finished a beautiful quilt top, after painstakingly spending countless hours just to get to the stage where you have this flimsy top. What next! you can struggle to layer it, baste it, and try to cram the whole thing through your small sewing machine or you can choose to send it off to a longarmer like me! My job is to take those layers and return a gorgeous finished quilt back to you.
Batting
Have your own? Great bring in it and I am happy to use whatever you provide. Don't want to pay shipping or don't have your own, that's fine! Currently I stock 96" wide Hobbs 80/20, that's 80% cotton and 20% polyester.
Backing
Have you found the perfect backing but need to piece it to make it the right size? Consider using a 1/2" seam allowance and pressing the seam open to lessen the bulk and make sure that your quilt back will stay strong and lay flat. Now let's talk size, both the batting and backing should be about 4" larger on each side. so if your quilt top measures 60"X80" the batting and back should be 68"X88". Also on the other end of the spectrum, if you have found the perfect wide-back fabric but its way to big for the size of quilt, no worries! I can load the quilt as normal and return the excess with the quilt and you can re-use it!
If you aren't close enough to Vancouver to drop off your quilt, shipping can be quick and easy. Although I strongly suggest getting insurance though, nothing would be more tragic then having a quilt go missing and losing not only the fabric, but all of your hard work and effort you put into it!
Quilting Design
Now that you know the basics, what do you actually want quilted? As far as designs go, the sky is the limit!

Additional tips before sending a quilt
~ Give it a good press, nobody wants wrinkles!
~ Loose threads? take a few minutes to trim away any loose threads that will otherwise show through white fabrics or get caught in the quilting
~ Coming undone? If your quilt has a pieced outer edge, consider stay stitching 1/8" all around the perimeter to keep your piecing intact.
~ Make sure to mark the quilt top (and backing if directional) I like to use a piece of painters (masking) tape because it sticks well but won't leave any residue!
